HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — Former Marshall University President Robert B. Hayes has died in West Virginia. He was 92. Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary confirmed that Hayes died Friday in Huntington. Hayes was Marshall's 11th president, serving from 1974 to 1983. JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — Many Alaska residents were mistakenly warned on TV and on the radio Friday morning of a tsunami threat along the West Coast of the United States, from San Diego to Alaska's Aleutian islands. The alert said at the end of a nearly two-minute long message that it was a test. But not all listeners and viewers received that information, officials said. WASHINGTON — The United States aspires to have North Korea as a “close partner” and not an enemy, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Friday, noting that the U.S. has often in history become good friends with former adversaries. PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) — A National Park Service team of historic preservation experts has turned its attention to Battery San Antonio at Pensacola Naval Air Station. The Maryland-based team transitioned to the project earlier this week after doing major repairs at Fort Pickens on Gulf Islands National Seashore. MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota has hired Kyle Lindsted as an assistant coach, after he spent the last three seasons in the same role at Wichita State. Gophers coach Richard Pitino announced the move on Friday, rounding out his staff. Pitino hired Rob Jeter last month, after losing two assistants to other programs. (AP) — The Michigan Court of Appeals on Friday ordered the elections board to certify a ballot initiative that would repeal the state's law requiring higher wages on state-financed construction projects, rejecting arguments that circulators gave incorrect addresses for their residences. In a 3-0 ruling, the judges directed the bipartisan Board of State Canvassers to approve the petition because the elections bureau projected that more than enough valid signatures — 268,000 — had been submitted. SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) — Sarasota Bay Watch Inc., the area nonprofit that already introduced millions of scallop larvae into Sarasota Bay, is starting an ambitious program to release more than 175,000 southern hard shell clams into the estuary. CBS just picked up five more pilots to series — one comedy and four dramas. Included in the latest bushel of new 2018-19 shows is the network’s “Magnum P.I.” remake and Ava DuVernay’s “The Red Line,” which stars Noah Wyle. Greg Berlanti is an executive producer on two of these new series, including DuVernay’s. His other one, “God Friended Me,” is through his own studio. The final (for now) pair of projects ordered from pilots include multi-camera comedy “Fam,” which stars Nina Dobrev, and Craig Sweeny’s military drama “The Code.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House on Friday declined to condemn comments made by a special assistant to President Donald Trump dismissing Sen. John McCain's opinion during a closed-door meeting because, she said, "he's dying anyway." White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters she would not comment on an internal staff meeting, but said that Kelly Sadler, the aide in question, remains a White House staffer. "I'm not going to validate a leak out of an internal staff meeting one way or the other," she said.

HOLLISTON, Mass. (AP) — Police arriving at Holliston High School were worried that they might have a potentially explosive situation on their hands. Earlier Friday morning they'd received an anonymous phone call claiming that a student had a "bomb" in a car at the school. The high school administration was notified and the student parking lot cordoned off, according to a police report.
