SACRAMENTO — The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department can take photos, fingerprints and additional DNA samples of accused serial murderer and rapist Joseph James DeAngelo, a judge ruled Thursday. PHOENIX (AP) — A Mesa man has been arrested for allegedly abusing and neglecting two of his children for the past three years. Maricopa County Sheriff's detectives say 37-year-old Giammoda Lewis Miller is jailed on suspicion of 24 felony charges including aggravated assault and child abuse. They say Miller's wife is facing similar charges for her part in the abuse of her two stepchildren. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A judge ordered that a robbery defendant be released from jail after nearly a year in a case that led to reform of California's bail system because the man could not afford $350,000 bail. EWING, Va. (AP) — The U.S. Military has recovered the remains of a 19-year-old Marine who was killed fighting the Japanese during World War II. The Department of Defense said in a statement Thursday that it identified Pfc. William F. Cavin. He died Nov. 20, 1943, fighting for the strategically located Pacific island of Betio in the Tarawa Atoll of the Gilbert Islands. NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The man who killed a New Orleans police officer in 2015 with a gun smuggled into a police car has been formally sentenced to life in prison. Thursday's sentencing hearing for Travis Boys provided the mother of slain officer Daryle Holloway an opportunity to address the killer. PALO ALTO, Calif. (AP) _ Hercules Technology Growth Capital Inc. (HTGC) on Thursday reported first-quarter net income of $5.9 million, after reporting a loss in the same period a year earlier. The Palo Alto, California-based company said it had net income of 7 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for investment costs, came to 31 cents per share. NEW YORK (AP) — NBC News has corrected a story that said federal investigators had placed a wiretap of the phone lines of President Trump's attorney, Michael Cohen, saying the feds were monitoring only what calls were being made but weren't listening in. The important change was made more than four hours after the original story moved online Thursday, when it caused immediate chatter on the cable news networks.
