TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — A former Florida police officer has been charged with sexually assaulting a female driver during a traffic stop. Tallahassee police announced Wednesday that 43-year-old Vincent Crump faces three charges of sexual battery by a law enforcement officer. Police spokesman Damon Miller says Crump has turned himself in. Leon County jail records show he has not yet been officially booked. BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Police say two students have been hurt in an accidental shooting at a high school in Alabama's largest city. Birmingham Police Sgt. Bryan Shelton told local media organizations that one of the students suffered life-threatening injuries. Shelton called it an "accidental shooting" but details weren't immediately available. Authorities say the shooting occurred just before 4 p.m. Wednesday.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A bill extending the moratorium on the permanent closure of coal ash ponds has won House approval and awaits the signature of Gov. BEAVER DAM, Wis. (AP) — Authorities say a team of explosive experts has successfully detonated volatile chemicals at a Beaver Dam apartment where a man was killed in an explosion earlier this week. Police Chief John Kreuziger says Wednesday's detonation eliminated "the threatening explosive material." Kreuziger says sandbags were placed in the apartment to minimize the impact of the controlled explosion, which he says caused less severe damage than expected.
