DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Nearly 200 trees planted at Des Moines Water Works Park in memory of loved ones will be removed to make way for park improvements. Station KCCI reports that Water Works CEO Bill Stowe said Tuesday that improvements the community has long wanted can't be made unless about 180 of the 1,100 memorial crabapple trees are removed. BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) — Miller Park Zoo in Illinois is celebrating the birth of two male otter pups and will auction off the chance to name the newborns. North American River Otters "Tallulah" (tuh-LOO'-luh) and "Ozzie" welcomed their pups into the world on Feb. 12. The newborns won't be on exhibit until sometime in late March as they still need to learn how to swim. But they can be seen through a video monitor in the zoo's veterinary hospital room. PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Police have arrested a 31-year-old man in connection with a hit-and-run crash in Philadelphia that left three injured, including a 3-year-old girl in critical condition. Authorities say the driver mounted the sidewalk in the city's Mayfair section around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, striking a 35-year-old woman and her two young daughters.
