NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — New York-area airports have set a record for passenger traffic for a sixth straight year. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates John F. Kennedy, LaGuardia, Newark Liberty and Stewart airports, says more than 132 million passengers used those facilities in 2017. That's a 2.2 percent increase over the previous record in 2016. An officer fired their weapon Wednesday afternoon and struck a 22-year-old man during a pedestrian stop in Fairfield, authorities said. The incident occurred about 3:40 p.m. on Crowley Lane, a residential area, according to the Fairfield Police Department. The Solano County Sheriff’s Department and Fairfield officers attempted to stop the man when shots were fired, police said. There was no immediate information on the events leading up to the gunfire. CONCRETE, Wash. (AP) — A 47-year-old driver is facing felony charges after his vehicle collided with a bus carrying members of a school wrestling team in rural Skagit County. The Washington State Patrol says Justin Rodgers was under the influence of drugs or alcohol when he ran a stop Tuesday night and slammed into a Concrete School District transport bus. CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago police say February ended as the twelfth straight month to see a drop in gun violence. The department released statistics on Thursday that show there were 38 homicides in February compared to 49 in February of last year. The number of shooting victims and shooting incidents also fell. WASHINGTON (AP) — American manufacturers say they expanded in February at the fastest pace in nearly 14 years. The Institute for Supply Management, a trade group of purchasing managers, reports that its manufacturing index climbed to 60.8 in February from 59.1 in January. AMC Entertainment posted record fourth quarter sales on Thursday, spurred by the theater giant’s acquisition of several cinema chains a year earlier. Before markets opened Thursday, AMC reported $1.42 billion in revenue and a loss of 2.14 cents a share for the three months ended December 31. The revenue spike was a 53 percent jump year-over-year, with AMC posting its best Q4 marks for admissions and concessions. DETROIT (AP) — Early reports from appear to confirm expectations that auto sales tailed off in February as automakers eased up on discounts. Auto forecasting firm LMC Automotive predicts a 2 percent drop from last February for what is normally one of the weakest sales months of the year. Others forecast an even steeper decline. CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — A former University of Wyoming professor who pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography has been ordered to leave the U.S. and return to China within 90 days. KTWO-AM reports Jian Cai pleaded guilty in November and was sentenced Tuesday. U.S. District Judge Nancy Freudenthal also ordered Cai to pay $6,000 in restitution.
