(AP) — Arkansas' Supreme Court on Thursday lifted stays of execution for two condemned killers, saying they were not entitled to special assistance from mental health professionals before and during their trials. Bruce Ward and Don Davis were among eight prisoners scheduled to die over 11 days last spring, but their April 17 executions were postponed so that the state's high court could consider their arguments that, by law, independent psychiatrists should have been available to help develop trial strategies. The musician earned an Academy Award nomination for his co-writing efforts on Mary J. Blige's "Mighty River," an original song from the Netflix film "Mudbound." FOND DU LAC, Wis. (AP) — A Fond du Lac County judge has sentenced a man charged with killing a young woman nearly three decades ago to the maximum 10 years in prison. Eighteen-year-old Berit Beck was strangled while travelling from Sturtevant to Appleton in July 1990 on a work-related trip. Sixty-four-year-old Dennis Brantner earlier entered an Alford plea to second-degree reckless homicide after an initial trial ended with a mistrial. More than 60 percent of the more than 2,200 patients surveyed by the state report benefits from using marijuana in inhaled or pill forms during the first five months after Minnesota approved cannabis to treat pain. RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Virginia State Police say an armed man has been fatally shot by police on Interstate 64 after a vehicle chase. Authorities say the chase began shortly after 10 a.m. Thursday in Richmond when a vehicle refused to stop for law enforcement. Police say the suspect continued onto Interstate 95 and then eastbound on I-64. Authorities say the vehicle crashed in the median in Henrico County. Monkfish have been commercially fished for years, but recent analyses by the federal government show the monster-like bottom dweller can withstand more fishing pressure. (AP) — Authorities say a motorist who caused a September crash that killed both drivers had a blood-alcohol content of 0.57 percent — a life-threatening figure that's more than seven times the legal limit.
