Tribeca Film Festival Announces Full Slate, Nearly Half Directed by Women
The Tribeca Film Festival is tackling Hollywood’s gender gap head-on, on Wednesday announcing a full lineup of films of which nearly half are directed by women.
This year’s festival, which runs April 18-29, includes 96 films from 103 filmmakers — and 46 percent of them are directed by women, a record for the festival and an anomaly for most major film festivals.
Liz Garbus’ “The Fourth Estate,” a documentary following the New York Times’ coverage of Donald Trump’s first year in the White House, will close the festival.
In addition, festival organizers announced that Drake Doremus’ sci-fi romance “Zoe” starring Ewan McGregor, Léa Seydoux, Rashida Jones, and Theo James will have its world premiere as the centerpiece gala.
