PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — The second Zumwalt-class stealth destroyer has passed its sea test. A statement from Naval Sea Systems Command says the future USS Michael Monsoor successfully completed its acceptance trials Thursday. The Portland Press Herald reports the statement says onboard systems such as navigation, damage control, mechanical, combat, communication and propulsion met or exceeded specifications. SISTERS, Ore. (AP) — Jake Lee moved from Pendleton to Sisters just so he could learn to fly. At 8, he said, he flew for the first time, accompanying his father, an aerial photographer for an engineering firm in Hermiston in a small plane. "He goes up and takes pictures of fields and things, and I got to go with him once," Lee said, "and that was really awesome." Lee caught the bug that day. NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Mardi Gras season is kicking into high gear with a slew of major parades throughout New Orleans. GUATEMALA CITY (AP) — Researchers using a high-tech aerial mapping technique have found tens of thousands of previously undetected Mayan houses, buildings, defense works and pyramids in the dense jungle of Guatemala's Peten region, suggesting that millions more people lived there than previously thought. The discoveries, which included industrial-sized agricultural fields and irrigation canals, were announced Thursday by an alliance of U.S., European and Guatemalan archaeologists working with Guatemala's Mayan Heritage and Nature Foundation. WASHINGTON (AP) — The Federal Reserve is imposing more penalties on Wells Fargo, freezing the bank's growth until it can prove it has improved its internal controls. In addition, bank agreed to replace four board members. It's the latest blow against the San Francisco bank that has had its reputation tarnished by revelations it opened phony customer accounts and sold auto insurance to customers who did not need it. NEW YORK (AP) — Best Buy Co., the nation's largest consumer electronics retailer, says it will be handing out bonuses to more than 100,000 employees, joining a list of companies sharing a portion of their windfall from the corporate tax reform law with employees. The Minneapolis-based chain says that this month it will pay one-time bonuses of $1,000 to full-time workers and $500 to part-time employees.
