DALLAS (AP) — Americans are having fewer babies, and diaper makers are feeling the pinch. Kimberly-Clark said Tuesday it will cut as many as 5,500 jobs, or 13 percent of its workforce, in an attempt to lower costs. The job cuts come as the maker of Huggies and Kleenex — like other consumer-products companies — is seeing a decline in demand for some core products as U.S. birthrates fall. PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia wants to become the first U.S. city to allow supervised drug injection sites as a way to combat the opioid epidemic. City officials made the announcement Tuesday, saying they would seek outside operators to establish one or more safe injection sites. MONTEREY, Calif. (AP) — Officials say eight beaches on California's Central Coast have reopened after nearly 5 million gallons of sewage spilled into the ocean over the weekend. The beaches south of San Francisco that are popular with surfers and day visitors opened Monday after lab tests showed the area is safe. Monterey One Water general manager Paul Sciuto says 4.9 million gallons of sewage water spilled into the ocean after a filter at a water treatment plant got clogged and the computer system failed to sound an alarm. NEW YORK (AP) — The Walt Disney Co. will give more than 125,000 eligible employees a one-time $1,000 cash bonus and invest $50 million in an education funding program.
