LIHUE, Hawaii (AP) — A recent study found that the timeshare industry on the Hawaiian island of 2016 generated about $1 billion in economic output in 2016 and about $5.3 billion in consumer and business spending. NEW YORK (AP) — Vistra Energy and Dynegy will join in an all-stock deal to create a power company with 2.7 million residential and 240,000 industrial customers. Dynegy shareholders will receive 0.652 shares of Vistra stock for each Dynegy share. Vistra shareholders will hold 79 percent of the combined company. (AP) — Strayer Education is tying up with Capella Education in a deal worth about $1.9 billion as the U.S. Education Department considers rolling back Obama-era rules that would have erased federal loans for students defrauded by for-profit colleges. Strayer University and Capella University will continue to run as independent institutions with separate boards. TOKYO (AP) — Japanese video-game maker Nintendo said Monday that its net profit jumped 35 percent in April-September from a year earlier, helped by popularity of its Switch hybrid game machine and new releases. HONG KONG (AP) — HSBC says profits rose in the third quarter as a sweeping corporate overhaul, aimed at winning more business in Asia pays off. The London-based global bank said Monday that pretax profit rose to $4.6 billion in the July-September period, up from $843 million a year ago. It reported net income of nearly $3 billion, swinging from a loss of $617 million the previous year. Revenue climbed 38 percent to $13.2 billion.
