DETROIT (AP) — Responding to consumer concerns about exhaust fumes, Ford is offering to inspect and repair Explorer SUVs at no cost to owners. Ford maintains the vehicles are safe, but said it's making the repairs available in response to customer concerns about exhaust odors and carbon monoxide. DETROIT (AP) — Fiat Chrysler is recalling nearly 470,000 older vehicles worldwide to fix a problem with headrests that can malfunction in rear collisions. The recall covers certain 2012 Jeep Liberty SUVs and 2012 and 2013 Chrysler 200 and Dodge Avenger midsize sedans. Fiat Chrysler says a safety restraint control computer can degrade after several years of use. The social-media giant says ordering food for takeout or delivery is complicated. It promises to help save time by bringing existing food-delivery services into its app and partnering with some restaurants directly. SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Texas couple who set out for a day trip to Lake Powell while on vacation in southern Utah ended up narrowly surviving six harrowing days stranded on a rocky, desolate dirt road that was impassable in their rental car, authorities said Friday. Helena Byler, 78, was found lying on the road Oct. 2 by a rancher who happened to be checking on his cattle in the area of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Kane County Chief Deputy Alan Alldredge said. DETROIT (AP) — Ford is offering to inspect and repair about 1.3 million civilian versions of its Explorer SUV at no cost to owners in response to complaints of exhaust fumes leaking into passenger cabins. The company maintains the vehicles are safe, but says it will do the work because some customers are concerned. HOUSTON (AP) — The number of rigs exploring for oil and natural gas in the U.S. declined by eight this week to 928. That's up from the 539 rigs that were active a year ago. Houston oilfield services company Baker Hughes said Friday that 743 rigs sought oil and 185 explored for natural gas this week. Among major oil- and gas-producing states, Alaska, Kansas, North Dakota and Pennsylvania each gained one rig. A key U.S. maker of hospital products says it expects a temporary shortage of small saline bags because of the hurricane that hit Puerto Rico. The hurricane wiped out the island's electrical grid, shutting down Baxter's three Puerto Rico factories for several days.
