Three American soldiers were killed and another wounded in Afghanistan when an Afghan soldier turned his gun on them in a so-called "green on blue" attack. A US source confirming the incident although details are scarce. The Pentagon only stating they've opened an investigation into a shooting. But the governor's office in Nangarhar province says it took place there, where American special forces have been fighting alongside Afghans against Islamic State and the Taliban. Not many British tourists arrive in Malta in their own car. Fewer still come here with a car that is 71 years old. Briton Peter Sprot was one such visitor. A four-year-old boy is in critical condition after finding himself in difficulties while swimming in a pool. The police said the case was reported at about 2.15pm in Etna Street, Mellieha. The boy, who is from San Ġwann, was rushed to hospital where he was found to be conscious but in critical condition.

Richard Hammond has joked "I'm not dead" as he apologised to his wife and children after his car crashed and burst into flames while filming The Grand Tour. A 28-year-old Australian woman whose family is Maltese has pleaded guilty in a Sydney court to fraud charges after posing as a schoolgirl. Samantha Azzopardi, described in Australian media as a serial con artist known to have used more than 40 aliases, duped authorities in Ireland and Canada, in 2013 and 2014 into thinking she was a child sex abuse victim held by human traffickers. Iran has sent four cargo planes of food to Qatar and plans to provide 100 tonnes of fruit and vegetable every day, Iranian officials said, amid concerns of shortages after Qatar's biggest suppliers severed ties with the import-dependent country. Democratic Party leader Marlene Farrugia has joined other PN MPs who are calling on Opposition leader Simon Busuttil to reconsider his resignation. Dr Busuttil last week announced his intention to step down and not re-contest the leadership post. Female MPs from both major parties believe a full-time Parliament will help more women enter politics but disagree on the value of quotas for bringing about the much-needed change. Only eight women were elected to Parliament in last week’s election, although that number could rise after the upcoming casual elections. The last legislature included 10 women among its 69 MPs, a significant increase on previous years, but still leaving Malta at a miserable 143rd place worldwide for female representation.
