Zackiel is one of hundreds of children in Malta who this month wrote to Santa to convince him that they are deserving of presents... Читать дальше...

Santa helps children be givers

When children start questioning the existence of Father Christmas, they can be ‘let in’ on the secret and shown how to become a giver and not just a receiver. Sometimes, parents found it harder to accept their children’s readiness to stop believing in Santa, clinical psychologist Charlene Aquilina told this newspaper. This could be because parents start coming to terms with the fact that their children are growing up and they too will have to say goodbye to the fantasy of Santa Claus. “When the truth is out... Un-Believe it!

An actual car will be seen flying above the Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre stage during MADC’s pantomime Un-Believe it! this year. Un-Believe it! is based on childhood classic Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, so the team needed a battered, old version of the flying automobile,” Alan Montanaro, Dame Vera Tastee, said. Car collector David Arrigo loaned three Fiat Barchettas, with the third being a drivable one for promotion purposes. The next challenge was to get the Barchetta to sprout wings and fly. Director... The heir to the British throne, who plans to take the title Defender of Faith when he becomes King in an effort to unite all religions, said on BBC Radio there had been a rise in aggression towards those who adhered to a minority faith. "All of this has deeply disturbing echoes of the dark days of the 1930s," he said. Читать дальше...

The dollar and emerging market vulnerabilities

One of the effects of a strengthening dollar is the shift of capital flows out of emerging markets. There are two factors that influence the dynamics of this shift. The first is a reversal of capital flows. This is important because some emerging markets are heavily reliant on foreign inflows to fund fiscal or current account deficits. The IMF says that between 2009 and 2013, emerging markets received about US$4.5 trillion of gross capital inflows, representing roughly half of all global capital flows in that period.
