Pa. historian envisions Marine's statue in Erie
U.S. Marine Lt. John Brooks Jr.'s role in the Battle of Lake Erie was short-lived. Standing near Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry on the Brig Lawrence, Brooks died from his injuries after he was struck by a 24-pound cannonball on Sept. 10, 1813.
