LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — An assistant high school principal in Little Rock has pleaded not guilty charges in a hit-and-run that injured a police officer and another man. Keith Hearnsberger entered the plea Tuesday to charges of second-degree battery, leaving the scene of an accident with injury and reckless driving. Police say Lt. Johnny Gilbert had arrested and was escorting 25-year-old Darryl Johnson across a city street early Sunday when both were struck by a vehicle that left the scene. RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Authorities say a second body was found at the scene of a fire that burned a Renton house Friday. KOMO-TV reported that investigators were able to enter the home Tuesday and found a man's body in a bedroom. The King County Sheriff's Office says it appeared the man died as a result of the fire. On Friday, a man's body was found in the backyard of the house in the 16500 block of 146th Avenue Southeast. COVINGTON, Okla. (AP) — The U.S. Geological Survey reports an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.7 has been recorded in central Oklahoma. The quake struck at 5:47 a.m. Wednesday near Covington, about 55 miles (89 kilometers) north of Oklahoma City. There are no reports of injury or severe damage. ASHFORD, Ala. (AP) — A former southeast Alabama police official will avoid jail time after being convicted of soliciting a teenager for sex. A judge convicted former Ashford assistant police chief Clint Williams on a charge soliciting prostitution during a non-jury trial on Tuesday. He was acquitted on a marijuana possession charge. The Dothan Eagle reports Williams received a suspended jail term of one year, meaning he won't serve time. PORTSMOUTH, Va. (AP) — Authorities say a Virginia police officer who was shot and wounded while trying to detain a 15-year-old boy is now "awake and talking" after undergoing two surgeries. News outlets report that Portsmouth police spokeswoman Misty Holley released the latest update into the unidentified officer's condition Tuesday night. RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — A Rapid City teenager accused of killing a convenience store clerk during a January robbery has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. Carlos Quevedo was 17 but was charged as an adult. He's now 18. Authorities say Quevedo and 19-year-old Cody Grady killed 45-year-old Kasie Lord as they tried to steal beer from a Loaf 'N Jug store. Quevedo was accused of stabbing Lord more than three dozen times. Quevedo said in court he had used medicine, marijuana and alcohol, and blacked out and doesn't remember what happened. RICHLAND, Miss. (AP) — Authorities say deputies delivered five pounds (2.30 kilograms) of marijuana to a Mississippi home and arrested three people. The Rankin County Sheriff's Office told news outlets that Richland police contacted narcotics officers about an intercepted package that might contain illegal drugs Thursday. Investigators say the package was sent from California to an individual at a Mississippi address. CANTON, Miss. (AP) — A Mississippi man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for the sexual battery of a 7-year-old child. BURLINGTON, N.C. (AP) — A teen has been found shot to death in a car in North Carolina. Assistant Burlington Police Chief Chris Verdeck said in a news release that officers were called to a shooting Tuesday night. They found 17-year-old Travonte Contrell Compton, who was declared dead at the scene. Police say they are looking for another 17-year-old male in the shooting.
