PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Authorities say three people died in a shooting in southwest Oregon. Sgt. Brad O'Dell of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office says deputies found the victims Tuesday night after being called to the scene west of Roseburg. O'Dell says investigators are trying to determine the circumstances, and more information would be released by Wednesday afternoon. He says there's no danger to the public. The names of those killed have not been released.

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — The director of a nonprofit group that runs child care programs has won a seat in the Mississippi House. Cheikh (SHACK) Taylor of Starkville defeated two candidates Tuesday in House District 38 in Clay, Lowndes and Oktibbeha counties. He will succeed Democrat Tyrone Ellis of Starkville. HOUSTON (AP) — A college student has been found not guilty by reason of insanity in the 2016 fatal stabbing of his mother who served on a Houston-area school board. A judge in Houston on Wednesday ruled 23-year-old Blake Jefferson must be confined to a state hospital and under the care of mental health experts. BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — Voters in East Helena and Lockwood have overwhelmingly approved taking preliminary steps toward building new high schools in the communities. The votes were made possible by legislation signed into state law this spring that gave elementary-only school districts with more than 1,000 students the right to expand. MCMINNVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Authorities say a plane crash has killed two people in Tennessee. The Federal Aviation Administration tells news outlets the Piper PA-32 crashed in a field while trying to land at Warren County Memorial Airport on Tuesday around 7 p.m. Warren County Sheriff Jackie Matheny did not tell WKRN-TV the names of the two who died. The FAA will investigate and the National Transportation Safety Board will determine what caused the crash.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — At least four former staff members of a northern Texas juvenile correctional facility may face prison time amid sexual misconduct allegations. Texas Juvenile Justice Department officials say former correctional officer Samuel Lee Wright at the Gainesville State School was convicted in July of having improper sexual activity with youths in custody. MOSCOW (AP) — Russian prosecutors on Wednesday displayed $2 million in cash, which they claim was a bribe, at the trial of a former economic development minister accused of corruption. SEATTLE (AP) — A Hawaiian Airlines plane landed at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport with flames coming from one of its engines. Airport spokesman Perry Cooper says at about 9 p.m. Tuesday the aircraft landed and air traffic control noticed a fire in the left engine as it landed. Cooper says the pilots were notified and as the landing occurred, the fire was extinguished. The flight was a ferry flight with just crew and no passengers.
