(AP) — Police school resource officers in Spokane are arresting far fewer students after the district changed the way it approaches discipline issues. The changes include putting an emphasis on deescalating situations before making an arrest, and requiring resource officers to be trained on how to communicate with kids who have behavioral issues or disabilities.

(AP) — The mayor of Berryville says his city received $61,000 in state grants after he dropped objections to other state grants to a private college in Springdale. Former state Sen. Jon Woods, Ecclesia College President Oren Paris III and consultant Randell Shelton have been indicted for alleged kickbacks to Woods for the grants.

The Associated Press reported Wednesday that the Chinese government recently granted preliminary approval for 38 trademarks to Trump and a related company. The Mexican trademarks cover a broad range of business operations that can roughly be broken down into construction; construction materials; hotels, hospitality and tourism; and real estate, financial services and insurance. ST. LOUIS (AP) — Missouri's 12 community college systems are working together to train students for jobs offered by the state's businesses. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/2n4BkKA ) the program will help in cases where a Missouri company needs assistance with employee training but the nearest community college doesn't have a curriculum or expert faculty in that subject.

BOSTON (AP) — Marijuana advocates are planning to gather on the steps of the Massachusetts Statehouse as lawmakers being weighing changes to the voter-approved law legalizing the drug's recreation use. House Speaker Robert DeLeo has called for the creation of a Substance Addiction Fund using proceeds from retail pot sales, which are not expected to begin in Massachusetts until mid-2018 at the earliest.

PREWITT, N.M. (AP) — The FBI and Navajo Nation are investigating a shooting that has critically wounded a tribal police officer. Authorities say the officer was shot while responding to a domestic violence call early Sunday near Prewitt, New Mexico.

According to studio estimates Sunday, Kong: Jeff Goldstein, Warner Bros.' head of domestic distribution, said the weekend "far exceeded everyone's expectations," and he predicts Monday actuals might come in higher than the estimated $61 million. (AP) — Facing a growing number of vacant, neglected structures, Portage Borough Council has taken an unusual approach for encouraging reuse of several former church properties. Council voted last week to explore revoking tax-exempt status for the former Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Parish church buildings and a former church school. (AP) — A jury in Pulaski County has found a physician guilty of receiving payment from Kentucky's Medicaid program for tobacco cessation counseling that he did not perform. Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear says in a news release that the circuit court jury found 58-year-old Dr. Ezekiel Akande of Somerset guilty last week of Medicaid fraud and theft by unlawful taking over $10,000.

The Sun Herald (http://bit.ly/2ntiOrB ) reported Saturday that 39-year-old Leonard Charles Thomas said he didn't receive the money by claiming he lost work as a deckhand after the BP oil spill. The indictment states Thomas falsely claimed he was a deckhand and an oyster and shrimp fisherman on a boat known as the Strike and Mississippi Strike in Pass Christian when the oil spill occurred.

RAMALLAH, West Bank (AP) — Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas says U.S. President Donald Trump has assured him of his commitment to Israeli-Palestinian peace efforts. The official Palestinian news agency WAFA quoted Abbas as saying that Trump "asserted his full commitment to the peace process."
