NEW YORK (AP) — Ketchup maker and packaged food giant Kraft Heinz has withdrawn a $143 billion offer to buy Unilever, backing away after the mayonnaise, tea and seasonings maker rejected the bid as too low. The companies announced the decision Sunday in a joint press release, saying that Kraft Heinz has "amicably" abandoned the offer. There were some split decisions on contract items including car allowance, relocation expenses and contract renewals. The board voted unanimously on health insurance benefits after a three-hour meeting, which prompted an impromptu applause. Board member Walker McGinnis proposed giving Akins the salary he asked for, but received no second to bring his proposal to a vote.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The Boise National Forest has a new deputy supervisor. Tawnya Brummett will take over as deputy forest supervisor starting Monday. Previously, she worked as the deputy forest supervisor for the Tongass National Forest in Alaska since 2015. She has a degree in wildlife biology from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. Boise National Forest Supervisor Cecilia Seesholtz says she's looking forward to Brummett joining her team.

SMITHFIELD, Utah (AP) — Authorities say two people have been arrested after a 14-year-old girl was found seriously injured in a dry canal bed in northern Utah. Cache County Sheriff's officials won't elaborate on the identities of the two male suspects or the circumstances of their arrests, but a news conference is planned Tuesday morning.

(AP) — Williamson County officials are monitoring the use of a synthetic opioid they say was recently introduced in the area and poses a major threat of overdose. A bill introduced by Republican state Sen. Kyle McCarter of Vandalia would mark the drug as having a risk for potential abuse.

"The more conservative it is, the more appealing it will be to people outside this room," said Republican Rep. Tom Burditt, one of the bill's sponsors at the House Judiciary Committee meeting Wednesday. If realized, the state would have created a commercial market for marijuana and possibly generated up to $75 million in tax revenue. The new bill, much shorter in length, would be framed more like the system in Washington DC, where there are no provisions for sales but people can possess and grow small amounts of marijuana.
