(AP) — The lawyer for a Chicopee (CHIH'-kuh-pee) man charged with murdering a pregnant woman inside her Springfield apartment 12 years ago says she'll argue at his upcoming trial that police failed to properly investigate other possible suspects. The Republican reports (https://goo.gl/G1PU6o ) that prosecutors and the defense attorney went before a judge Monday to prepare for the trial.

Court records say the woman drove to a fire station where she reported stabbing the man in the neck and back. Both she and the grandfather have made initial court appearances and have requested public defenders.

Durham Police Chief CJ Davis said the struggle began when the officers with the city's violent crime team stopped a man for questioning, and he made a sudden move toward his waistband. The complaint filed Tuesday alleges the town of Bernards discriminated against the Islamic Society of Basking Ridge by amending its zoning ordinances and treating the group differently than it treated other religious groups.
