NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Police Department says a man is dead following a shooting in Brooklyn. Police say gunfire broke out at about 8:15 p.m. Tuesday on St. Marks Avenue. Officers found a 30-year-old man shot once in the torso. The man was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities didn't immediately identify the man. No arrests have been made. The shooting remains under investigation.

(AP) — The Wyoming Supreme Court is set to hear arguments from a magistrate who is due to be removed from office over her comments that she would refuse, if ever asked, to issue a marriage license to a same-sex couple. Ruth Neely, a Pinedale judge, filed a petition in April asking the court to reject a recommendation from the state Commission on Judicial Conduct and Ethics that she lose her job as a municipal judge and circuit court magistrate.

BANGOR, Maine (AP) — The murder trial of an Abbot man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend last summer and leading police on what's been called the longest manhunt in Maine history has been postponed. Jury selection in the trial of 39-year-old Robert Burton was scheduled to begin Monday at the Penobscot Judicial Center, but the case was shelved as Burton seeks a new lawyer to represent him.

The university says Robin Forman, a Harvard-trained mathematician who currently serves as the dean of Emory College of Arts and Sciences, has been named senior vice president for academic affairs and provost. Before joining Emory in 2010, Forman spent much of his academic career at Rice University, where he started in 1986, rising to full professor in 1999 and chair of the mathematics department in 2002.
