ROME (AP) — Italian police have detained a homeless man in the death of a 19-year-old American student whose body was found in the Tiber River in Rome two days after his credit card had been used in Milan. The Italian news agency ANSA said preliminary autopsy results indicated that Solomon had suffered injuries consistent with a fall and with days spent in the water. (AP) — Officials in Massachusetts say they plan to remove a heavily decomposed 50- to 60-foot long whale carcass that washed ashore on Martha's Vineyard. Town police Sgt. Joel DeRoche says plans are in the works to hire a private contractor and tow the carcass out to sea.

(AP) — Soaring over Jupiter's poles, a NASA spacecraft arrived at the solar system's largest planet on a mission to peek behind the cloud tops. HOUSTON (AP) — Police say four people have been shot, two fatally, near downtown Houston. Local media report the shooting happened around 10 p.m. Monday in a residential area outside of downtown after police say an argument broke out between two groups of people. Among the injured was a 10-year-old child. TV station KTRK reports he was shot in the abdomen and was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. A Houston police spokesman didn't immediately return messages from The Associated Press seeking comment.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Authorities say a 13-year-old girl has died in an all-terrain vehicle accident in southeastern New Mexico. New Mexico State Police say in a news release that Zoe Carr of Marlton, New Jersey was critically injured in the Sunday night accident in Malaga and pronounced dead at a hospital. Officers had responded to the crash to find that an ATV carrying Carr and a 13-year-old boy had rolled over. Police say the boy sustained minor injuries. JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) — Indonesian police said a suspected militant died in a suicide bombing attack Tuesday outside police headquarters in the city of Solo.
