HILO, Hawaii (AP) — A Hilo man who was shot and killed by police on Monday had been awaiting a mental health examination and substance abuse treatment, according to court records. The evaluation and treatment for Kalyp Rapoza had been ordered in a contempt of court case, in which he allegedly failed to comply with court orders related to a marijuana conviction. SPRINGDALE, Ark. (AP) — Harps Food Stores Inc. has announced plans to acquire nine former Wal-Mart stores in Arkansas and Missouri. The Springdale-based company announced Wednesday that it will purchase vacant stores in Cedarville, Charleston, Gentry, Gravette, Mansfield and Prairie Grove in Arkansas, and stores in Anderson, Noel and Seligman in Missouri. Wal-Mart closed the stores as part of a large-scale reorganization in which 269 stores were closed worldwide. Most of the closures involved Wal-Mart's smaller stores called Wal-Mart Express. Police in Jackson County's Springport Township say the 18-year-old men were found dead Wednesday near the rural home after officers responded to a call from a resident of the home. The Jackson Citizen Patriot reports (http://bit.ly/1PKN7Xv ) police say there was an apparent confrontation between the men and an occupant of the home prior to the shooting.

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut State Police say a report of a student with a handgun has prompted a lockdown at a high school in Hartford. No injuries have been reported. City and state police responded to Prince Technical High School shortly before 9 a.m. Thursday. A SWAT team and police dogs were brought in. A state police spokeswoman says troopers are helping search the school. No other information is available.

DETROIT (AP) — Free shredding of sensitive documents and recycling of small electronics is being offered Saturday at the home of the Detroit Tigers. There's no game Saturday at Comerica Park, but Comerica Bank is promoting "Shred Day" from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in one of the parking lots off Woodward Avenue.

According to news reports, the plane crashed while returning to its base in Kubinka, west of Moscow, after a group demonstration flight marking the opening of a monument to airmen near Moscow. The Interfax news agency said the plane that crashed had recently undergone factory repairs.
