DETROIT (AP) — Ford CEO Jim Hackett is apologizing for multiple instances of sexual harassment at an assembly plant in Chicago. In a letter sent Thursday to employees, Hackett said Ford won't tolerate harassment or retaliation against workers who report it. Hackett wrote, "We don't want you here, and we will move you out for engaging in behavior like this." He says he plans to visit the Chicago plant early next year to talk with workers. WASHINGTON (AP) — In a remarkably strong show of consumer demand, nearly 9 million people signed up for "Obamacare" next year, as government numbers out Thursday proved predictions of its collapse wrong yet again. MENLO PARK, Calif. (AP) — Eric Schmidt is stepping down as the executive chairman of Google parent Alphabet in January. The company says he will become a technical adviser and will continue to sit on the board. Schmidt joined Google in 2001 as CEO, three years after the search giant was founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin. Google launched a new structure in October 2015, making Alphabet a holding company for Google and related businesses. Some of those "other bets" include self-driving cars, smart thermostats and internet-delivering balloons.

(AP) — A Pennsylvania doctor who prescribed nearly 3 million doses of opioids during a recent 19-month period has been charged with causing the overdose deaths of five people, federal prosecutors said Thursday.
