Marcc Rose and Wavvy Jones will play Tupac and Biggie, respectively, in the series based on the experiences of former LAPD detective Greg Kading (Kading led the task force that investigated both murders in 1996 and 1997). Jamie McShane of Bloodline and Brent Sexton of The Killing will also join Unsolved in a pair of major roles as it heads to series, in a cast that already included Josh Duhamel as Kading, Jimmi Simpson as Detective Russell Poole, and Bokeem Woodbine as Officer Daryn Dupree.

The news comes after Fox announced on Thursday that it was axing freshman comedies Son of Zorn and Making History. Brooklyn Nine-Nine scores a renewal along with previously renewed comedies The Mick and The Last Man on Earth and Sunday animated comedies The Simpsons, Bob's Burgers and Family Guy. Samberg and the series have both taken home Golden Globes while Andre Braugher has scored an Emmy nomination for every season of the show, though the show's stunt coordinator is the only B99 representative to take home TV's biggest prize.

First the good news... remember when The Blacklist was renewed for a fifth season by NBC? No one should be too surprised about the decision as Redemption was NBC's third-lowest-rated series of the season, beating only the limp Emerald City and Powerless, which were also canceled. At an average of 4 million viewers and a 0.75 rating in the 18-49 demo in overnight ratings, it was far enough below its parent series The Blacklist (5.3 million, 1.0 rating) for NBC to scuttle it.

Fox has chosen the holiday classic A Christmas Story for its next live musical event, the network announced Friday. Fox's version will be based on both the 1983 film and the stage production of A Christmas Story. Live and a producer on Oscar winner La La Land, will shepherd the Fox musical.

ABC solidified its Tuesday night comedy block, officially handing out renewals to Fresh off the Boat and Speechless, TVGuide.com has learned. Fresh Off the Boat, about a Taiwanese family living in Orlando, will return for a fourth season, while Speechless, starring Minnie Driver as the matriarch of a family that includes a disabled son, will be back for a second season.

A gritty period drama about the American heartland is officially headed to the USA Network, with a series order officially on the books for Damnation. Damnation stars Irish actor Killian Scott as Seth Davenport, a traveling preacher in 1930s Iowa who has secret plans to spawn a populist uprising against big money and the corrupt men who wield it.

The original talk was that Jennifer Morrison, Colin O'Donoghue, Lana Parrilla and Robert Carlyle would be the only series regulars to continue on -- but that went up in the air when Morrison announced her exit earlier this week. The ruling comes after a federal appeals court last month left in place a decision blocking Blue Cross-Blue Shield insurer Anthem's bid to buy rival Cigna, saying a bigger company would not be better for consumers.
