NEW YORK (AP) — Rail travelers who have endured delays and cancellations prompted by equipment failures would face about six weeks of significant service disruptions this summer to accommodate repairs at Penn Station in New York under a plan proposed by Amtrak. The funding boost would help support the Gateway project to build a new rail tunnel under the Hudson River, and would push money for Northeast Corridor improvements and repair work over $700 million when combined with Amtrak's profits from that service. (AP) — A Texas state agency has withdrawn its ownership claim to 10 microfilm Bibles that Apollo astronauts took into space, ceding them to an author who says they were left to her by a NASA chaplain who helped send the tiny books into the heavens, court records show. The Rhode Island Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld a lower court's ruling that said landowners in a section of Westerly could put up fences to keep the public off their 2-mile stretch of beach. The attorney general says he's disappointed but points out that the decision does not affect a state constitutional guarantee to access the shoreline.

NEW YORK (AP) — Gannett, the publisher of USA Today and other newspapers, has warned about 18,000 current and former employees that hackers may have had access to their personal information after breaking into the emails of members of its human resources department. Gannett says it learned in March that several people in its human resource department were victims of a phishing attack, in which hackers try to steal personal information through emails.

Congress is giving Amtrak a funding boost that should help it make repairs to aging infrastructure at New York's Penn Station as well as up and down the Northeast Corridor. A preliminary plan obtained by The Associated Press Tuesday outlined six weeks of potential service disruptions for commuters. Amtrak says it will meet again with Long Island Rail Road and New Jersey Transit representatives to discuss a preliminary plan for service cutbacks at Penn Station in New York City this summer due to extensive repair work. (AP) — Toxic mine pollution is no longer flowing into Washington state's picturesque Lake Chelan for the first time in nearly 60 years because of a $500 million cleanup to contain contamination from the a mine, officials said this week.
