■ Back in the ’60s, my father was skiing for his first ever time in Aviemore, Scotland. As the university student gingerly made his way down the slopes, he crashed into someone and was immediately jumped upon by a handful of other men simultaneously.

It turned out he had knocked over a young Prince Charles and for that he would like to formally apologise. Again.

■ When I lived in Oman with my family, Charles visited the Sultan of Oman in his helicopter. As you flew over us at the Al Bustan hotel, my sarong flew over my head with the wind from the helicopter.

As it was my son’s fifth birthday, we asked the pilot if he could sit in the helicopter, which the pilot permitted. I told him what happened with my sarong and he said he watched with amusement, so sorry if you saw me, too, Charles!

■ During my time in the Royal Navy, I saw the then Prince Charles twice. The first time being when he and Diana went aboard the Royal Yacht in Gibraltar to go on their honeymoon.

The second was some three years later when he came aboard my ship, HMS Glasgow, as a private guest of the captain while we made passage from Portland to Glasgow.

Being at sea, somebody decided we ought to have some fun entertaining Charles by having what was called a sod’s opera on the flight deck – a load of silly songs, music and frolicking.

So we did and he enjoyed it. Then, while some were singing the Flanagan and Allen song Underneath The Arches, a chief petty officer grabbed Charles, saying, ‘Come on, wingnut’ (in reference to his ears) and they did a double act, which the prince seemed to enjoy – the crew of Glasgow certainly did.

Charles disembarked at Glasgow. Later, our captain got promoted to Commodore Royal Yacht Britannia. True story.

■ Congratulations and a long and happy reign together. We met when my partner, Chris Runeckles, was restoring garden tools for Highgrove and held your royal warrant. Sadly, he died very recently but he would have wanted to send his very loyal good wishes to you both on this most important day.

■ As a 20-year-old history student, I’m barely old enough to fully appreciate the roles played by the Queen, yet she has been present throughout my entire life.

I knew when she died that she left behind an unbelievable legacy – more than 70 years of service to her country through numerous wars, crises and prime ministers.

It would be impossible to match her service but I think Charles III will do a fantastic job of living up to her name and continuing the legacy of his mother.

■ I was one of three Rugby League World Cup volunteers out of 1,000 in 2013 chosen to attend a reception at Clarence House.

There were just 50 people at the lunchtime reception including players, officials and tournament organisers.
