Armenian President urges to stop militarization of Karabakh conflict
“Unfortunately, the state of affairs in our region can be described as a high level of tension,” President Sarkissian said the Munich Security Conference (MSC) Core Group discussions in Minsk.
He urged all participants of the Munich Security Conference, representatives of large states to stop the militarization of small-scale conflicts, including Nagorno-Karabakh dispute.
“It is a small territory, but Armenia and Azerbaijan are scaling up armaments because of it. Obviously, it isn’t a nuclear arms race, but it complicates the situation as technologies keep advancing and weapons become more dangerous,” added Armen Sarkissian.
Touching on the factor of time in the settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the Armenian President said:
“We know that time is a relative concept. If it works in favor of peace, we can wait, but if it works in favor of war, it seems very short. I am deeply concerned with the militarization of the Azerbaijani side that I am seeing.”
