Interpol chief Meng Hongwei reported missing after trip to China
French police have opened an investigation after the wife of Interpol director Meng Hongwei reported her husband missing, police sources said Friday, according to Reuters and other news outlets. Meng's wife, who lives in Lyon, where Interpol is based, contacted the police after not hearing from her husband since he traveled to China in late September, the sources said. "Interpol is aware of media reports in connection with the alleged disappearance of Interpol President Meng Hongwei. This is a matter for the relevant authorities in both France and China," Interpol said in a statement, adding it will not comment further at this time. Meng was formerly Vice Minister of Public Security in China, according to Interpol's website. He was the first Chinese official to become Interpol president, Chinese state news agency Xinhua said at the time.
