The Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund announced that it had allocated 14 humanitarian projects in the country last year.
According to the institution’s report, these projects have been implemented in Afghanistan with a minimum cost of $35 million.
In its first annual report, the Islamic Development Bank announced on Sunday, April 28th, that $24.4 million of these contributions came from the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund, and $12.21 million were funded by partners and international organizations.
The Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund was established through the Islamic Cooperation Conference following the fall of the Afghan government to the Taliban in 2021 via the Islamic Development Bank. The Islamic Development Bank typically publishes annual reports on the projects of this fund.
Mohammad Jamal Alsaati, Special Advisor to the President of the IsDB and Coordinator of the Afghanistan Humanitarian Trust Fund (AHTF), says, “These projects have been implemented in agriculture, education, food security, health, irrigation, and livelihood opportunities.”
According to Mr AlSaati, implementing these projects fulfils some of the basic needs of the Afghan people and creates opportunities for employment and capacity building.
The organization’s report states that 16 humanitarian projects are underway in Afghanistan.
Since the Taliban seized control of the country, a severe humanitarian crisis has emerged, exacerbated by the cessation of international projects and aid, as well as the isolation of their government.
