The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation of Afghanistan reports that more than 200 families, both voluntarily and involuntarily, have returned to the country from Iran and Pakistan in the past two days.
The ministry added that 98 families were returned to the country on Saturday, May 18, through the Spin Boldak crossing.
Meanwhile, the state news agency Bakhtar reported that another 140 families have also returned to the country through the Torkham and Herat crossings.
According to the report, 95 families entered Afghanistan through the Spin Boldak crossing in Kandahar, and another 37 families crossed the border from Islam Qala in Herat.
Two days prior, the Ministry of Refugees reported the forced deportation of more than a thousand migrants from Pakistan.
Additionally, the forced deportation of Afghan migrants from Iran, Pakistan, and Turkey continues to exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in the country.
The returnees face dire conditions upon arrival, with limited access to basic necessities and shelter.
The situation in Afghanistan has been further aggravated by a recent deadly flood, which has caused significant damage to infrastructure and displaced thousands more people. The combination of forced deportations and natural disasters has created a severe humanitarian emergency that requires immediate international attention and aid.
The Afghan government and international aid organizations struggle to cope with the escalating crisis, as the population’s needs far exceed the available resources.
Urgent measures are needed to address the immediate needs of the affected populations and to work towards long-term solutions for stability and recovery.
