Levon Martirosyan: Draft constitutional reforms are a chance to settle current problems in Armenia
The draft constitutional reforms are a good chance to promote democracy and to settle numerous current problems, Levon Martirosyan, member of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Faction, said at a press conference in Yerevan.
He said that the draft reforms have some incomplete aspects, but they will not affect the upcoming reforms. "The need for reforms is an imperative. The opposition also insisted on the reforms and it is actually a compromising document," he said.
For his part, Head of the Democratic Party of Armenia Aram Sargsyan pointed out that he advocates a parliamentary regime but he is an opponent of these reforms because the draft reforms do not reflect the state's social responsibility before the citizens. "The draft reforms are incomplete. There are numerous problems in the human rights-related chapters," he said. Sargsyan added that the reforms are not interesting to the Armenian society, because there are numerous domestic and socio-economic problems. "The society is not ready for these 'reforms' no matter what talk shows are held," he said.
To note, the constitutional referendum in Armenia is scheduled for December 6.
