Minister: ADB grants to the private sector and schools do not have a significant impact on the development of general education in Armenia
ArmInfo. Grant funds provided by the Asian Development Bank to the private sector and schools do not have a significant impact on the development of general education in
Armenia. On May 29, RA Minister of Education and Science Araik
Harutyunyan stated during the meeting with the ADB delegation headed
by the director of the Armenian office of the Bank Shane Rosenthal.
According to him, the problem should be considered in the
institutional context.
Thanking for the reception, Shane Rosenthal stressed that ADB
implements numerous programs of regional assistance in various
fields, which includes the education system.
During the meeting, Rosenthal presented the Bank's priorities for
assisting in the implementation of the repair program for Armenian
educational schools, the selection of schools and the current
situation. He informed that ADB consultants conducted research on the
question of retraining teachers in Armenia. During the meeting, the
issue of reforming the country's educational system was also
discussed. Particular attention was paid to the school management
councils and the steps taken towards the development of private
schools.
To recall, in 2015, the Asian Development Bank adopted a new
five-year program of assistance to Armenia, one of the items of which
is to ensure the seismic safety of the republic's schools. Since
2005, the Bank's investments in Armenia have exceeded $ 750 million,
of which $ 133 million - to the private sector.
Armenia joined ADB in 2005 and is included in the group of countries
with mixed (preferential and usual) financing. ADB is working on
poverty reduction in the Asia-Pacific region through promoting
economic growth and regional integration.
