HONOLULU (AP) — Jim Nabors, whose rendition of "Back Home Again in Indiana" became an Indianapolis 500 fixture for more than four decades, has died at 87. Husband Stan Cadwallader said the actor best known as the television star Gomer Pyle died Thursday at home in Hawaii after his health had declined for the past year. "Back Home Again in Indiana" is a centerpiece of the pageantry leading to the race, and Nabors sang it 36 times between 1972 and 2014. The Lakers aren’t cutting any corners.

Kyle Kuzma was a late-scratch for the Los Angeles Lakers Wednesday night, missing what was an entertaining overtime loss to the Golden State Warriors. Kuzma “tweaked his back,” as Lakers sideline reporter Mike Trudell put it, during his pregame routine and was ruled out with back spasms.

DETROIT (AP) — General Motors Co. expects to carry passengers and deliver goods with self-driving vehicles in big cities sometime in 2019, telling investors it's moving quickly and plans to be ahead of other automakers and tech companies. The Detroit automaker made the announcement at an investor presentation in San Francisco Thursday, saying that based on its current rate of change, it expects "commercial launch at scale" of the autonomous vehicles within the next year or so. The vehicles would not have a human backup driver, the company said.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A California school district acted properly when it suspended five students who "liked" or commented on racist images on another student's Instagram account that included nooses drawn around the necks of a black student and coach and comparisons of African-American women and students to gorillas, a judge has ruled.
