Anderson Silva teases ‘grand finale’ boxing match in June
UFC Hall of Famer Anderson Silva is teasing what could end up being his farewell match.
A 3D billboard in Shinjuku, Japan, aired a short promo for Spaten Fight Night, a combat sports event produced by the beverage company, announcing “Spider’s Grand Finale” for June 15.
Silva is expected to compete under boxing rules against a yet-to-be-announced opponent. The event will take place in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The former UFC middleweight champion made a name for himself in the octagon with 17 wins and 10 consecutive title defenses against the likes of Vitor Belfort, Dan Henderson, Chael Sonnen (twice), Rich Franklin and Demian Maia, plus as well as light heavyweight victories over Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar.
Silva parted ways with the promotion in 2020 and later moved to boxing, defeating Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in his return to the squared circle. “The Spider” made short work of Tito Ortiz, knocking him out in just 81 seconds in boxing, but dropped a decision to Jake Paul in hist most recent appearance in October 2022.
