Warriors GM Myers confirms Draymond-Poole altercation, Green apology and discipline
"It's the NBA, professional sports, these things happen," Myers said. "Nobody likes it. We don't condone it, but it happened."
Warriors general manager Bob Myers confirmed at a Thursday press conference that Draymond Green and Jordan Poole had an altercation during Wednesday’s practice.
Green, who reportedly punched Poole, apologized to the team Thursday morning with Poole in the room, Myers said.
Poole practiced Thursday while Green did not. Myers said the Warriors would handle any suspension or fine of Green “internally” and that he did not expect Green to miss any games.
“It’s the NBA, professional sports, these things happen,” Myers said. “Nobody likes it. We don’t condone it, but it happened.”
Myers said he didn’t “sense” that it was related to the contract extensions both players are seeking from the Warriors, but deferred to the players themselves on that matter. He also noted that he felt the “vibe” around the Warriors was very positive as the team traveled to Japan and back last week for two preseason games.
“It’s unfortunate and not gonna deny it,” Myers said. “It will take some time to move through, but we’ll move through it.”
Head coach Steve Kerr and star guard Steph Curry were also expected to speak at Thursday’s post-practice press availability.
The Warriors’ next preseason game is Sunday against the Lakers. They open the regular season against Los Angeles on Oct. 18.
This is a developing story. We will update with more information as it becomes available.
