Manny Akpan stole all the headlines with his “Knockout of the Year” contender, but he wasn’t surprised he landed it.
Known for his flashy style, Akpan (4-1) threw a beautiful spinning wheel kick against Connor Hitchens this past Saturday at Cage Warriors 136 and flattened his opponent face-first for the knockout.
Speaking to Severe MMA after the fight, Akpan said fans can expect more flashy finishes from him.
“I knew I could find his chin,” Akpan said. “As soon as I got in there, I hit him a couple of times and I knew I’d find the target – but it was just on me getting that right moment to hit him. He went for the shot. I knew he was quite desperate to get the shot and I can land these things for days. It’s my specialty.
“Any time you see me in the cage, I’m coming through with the highlight-reel knockouts, highlight-reel moves. That’s why they call me the ‘Black Death.'”
Cage Warriors 136 took place Saturday at BEC Arena in Manchester, England, as the second of a two-day doubleheader for the promotion.
