Gonzalez sets up rematch with Ancajas, as Ishida falls short
Ishida looked to fight behind his jab, using his speed and reach, but Gonzalez had other ideas in mind, cutting the distance well and attacking with hands up top and left hands to the body. It was an impressive start for the Mexican who quickly found his groove. At the mid way point Gonzalez looked to be in a clear lead behind his energy and aggression.
Thankfully for Ishida things began to turn around in the middle rounds, particularly in round 7 when he seemed to hurt Gonzalez for the first time, with a left to the body. From there on Ishida began to build his own momentum taking the center of the ring in round 10 and cutting Gonzalez in round 11.
With the fight closing up on the scorecards Gonzalez gave his all in the final round, looking to assure himself of victory. His aggression was back, and he did enough to impress taking the bout with a split decision. The Mexican had scores of 116-112 in his favour, twice, whilst Ishida was backed by one judge with a score of 115-113
After the bout Gonzalez swore to get revenge on Ancajas, who he was stopped by back in 2018, whilst Ishida revealed that he would continue on, stating that he wasn't boxing to just win this bout, but doing so to become a world champion.
