Melikuziev outpoints Alexander over 10 rounds
The super middleweight prospect heads into 2020 still on the fast track.
You’d probably expect more highlights out of fighters nicknamed “The Bully” and “The Animal,” but Bektemir Melikuziev’s 10-round decision win over Vaughn Alexander was booed for a lack of action when all was said and done.
Our live coverage for Ortiz vs Solomon continues here!
Super middleweight prospect Melikuziev improved to 4-0 (3 KO), going the distance for the first time as a pro. The 23-year-old fighter, originally from Uzbekistan, out-landed Alexander 253-34, throwing 674 total punches to a meager 137 from the 34-year-old Alexander, who falls to 15-4 (9 KO) with another defeat against a credible opponent. He’s now 3-4 in his last seven outings.
Scores were 100-90 across the board.
We’ll see what 2020 has in store for Melikuziev, but as much as this may have stunk to watch for a boxing fan, it’s probably not the worst thing that he had to deal with an opponent that just doesn’t give you much over 10 rounds. Blowing out too many guys in a row in short order can lead to some lousy habits, so in that sense Alexander certainly did his job. The plan has been for Melikuziev to move fast, and facing a survivor like Alexander in your fourth pro fight is a fast track kind of move.
