Frank Reich, in his first season as head coach, led the team to the playoffs for the first time since 2014. The Colts defeated the Texans in the Wild Card round, but lost to Kansas City in the Divisional Round. It’s no wonder hopes were high for 2019. Those hopes continued until the middle of August when the face of the franchise, Luck, abruptly announced his retirement.
In steps Brissett, the fourth-year NFL quarterback who threw for 3,098 yards and 13 touchdowns and rushed for 260 yards. Thrust into the spotlight, Brissett signed a two-year, $30 million contract just this week. Brissett will have the speedy T.Y. Hilton at wide receiver, as well as two tight ends in Pro Bowler Eric Ebron and Jack Doyle as his main targets.
For the Chargers, Rivers tallied 4,308 yards passing with 32 touchdowns last season. Keenan Allen will be his go-to guy again. Allen, the team’s top receiver a year ago with 1,196 yards and 10 touchdowns, will be joined by Mike Williams, who added 10 touchdowns as well. With Melvin Gordon still holding out, Austin Ekeler will get the start at running back.
Defensively, the Chargers can disrupt an offensive attack, especially up front with two of the best ends in the league in Melvin Ingram and Joey Bosa. Ingram had 10.5 sacks in 2017 and seven in 2018, while Bosa was an absolute beast in 2017 with 70 tackles and 12.5 sacks. Bosa suffered a foot injury that sidelined him until week 11, but still managed to record 5.5 sacks.
