Russell Wilson became the highest-paid player in the NFL last week, so he rewarded the teammates who protect him each week.
The Seattle Seahawks rewarded Russell Wilson with the richest contract in NFL history last week, locking up the franchise quarterback through 2023 with a four-year, $140-million extension. Wilson, who announced the deal while in bed with his wife, became the highest-paid player in the league, and will receive $65 million in guaranteed money.
After signing the deal, Wilson surprised his offensive linemen with what could be an extremely lucrative gift over time. As first reported by TMZ, Wilson sent each of his linemen a letter thanking them for their protection. Wilson wrote that instead of a “flashy” gift, he decided to give each player a total of $12,000 in Amazon stock, which is currently trading for 1,891.99 a share as of Tuesday morning.
“You sacrifice your physical and mental well-being to protect me, which in turn allows me to provide and care for my family. This does not go unnoticed and it is never forgotten.
Now it is my turn to return the favor. I would not be where I am today without you working to be great day in and day out. When I sat down to think of ways to honor your dedication a dozen different ideas came to mind. Some were flashy, some were cool, but I wanted to give you something that had a lasting impact. Something that would affect the lives of you, your family, and your children.”
Wilson’s stock haul certainly beats the best QB gifts of the 2018 season, which ranged from iPads to Yeti coolers to Polaris Rangers.
