Fairfax County Fire and Rescue said Route 7 is closed in both directions around the intersection and crews will be on the scene for an extended period of time.
A Fairfax County Police Department spokesman said authorities are being told the closure is expected to last for at least two days.
Drivers are urged to take an alternate route.
The gas leak has turned Route 7 into a “trouble spot,” according to WTOP Traffic Reporter Reada Kessler.
A caller to the WTOP Traffic Center heading eastbound reported they were diverted from Route 7 at Colvin Run Road.
