A second man is charged in connection with 2005 theft of ruby slippers worn in 'The Wizard of Oz'
A second man has been charged in connection with the 2005 theft of a pair of ruby slippers that Judy Garland wore in “The Wizard of Oz,” according to an indictment made public Sunday. Seventy-six-year-old Jerry Hal Saliterman was charged with theft of major artwork and witness tampering. He made his first court appearance Friday. He did not enter a plea but his attorney told reporters that his client is not guilty. The indictment says that from 2005 to 2018, Saliterman knowingly received, concealed and disposed of the slippers. Another man has already pleaded guilty to stealing them from the Judy Garland Museum in the late actor’s hometown of Grand Rapids, Minnesota. That man, Terry Jon Martin, was sentenced to time served due to his poor health.
