Italy on Saturday agreed to let 800 migrants including hundreds of minors and five pregnant women disembark after they were stuck at sea aboard an overcrowded vessel. German charity Sea Eye told AFP it had received permission to dock at Trapani in Sicily, just hours after a fellow charity delivered it urgently needed relief supplies, including food and blankets. A boat carrying 14 asylum seekers in distress is drifting in Malta's search and rescue area, emergency hotline Alarm Phone said on Saturday evening. Having fled war-torn Libya, the group had been at sea for five days on a fibreglass boat and needed rescuing immediately, an NGO spokesperson said. Four prison inmates, out of 12 currently serving life imprisonment for murder, have been ordered to serve solitary confinement, according to the Home Affairs Ministry. In the most recent case, the Criminal Court handed down a 10-day term of solitary confinement to Bojan Cmelik, who was jailed for life for the murder of entertainment mogul Hugo Chetcuti in Paceville in July 2018. Maltese swimmers Sasha Gatt, Dylan Cachia and Thomas Wareing continued to set new records at the European Short Course Championships in Kazan, Russia. Sasha Gatt was in action in the 200 metres freestyle heats and the Sirens swimmer completed the distance in a time of two minutes 03.69 seconds. Thousands of climate protesters braved rain and wind in Glasgow Saturday to take part in worldwide demonstrations against what campaigners say is a failure of crunch UN talks to act fast enough to tame global warming. Over 135,000 Malta-donated COVID-19 vaccines arrived in Ghana on Saturday, after they were transported by a special Air Malta direct flight. This brings the total number of donated vaccines to 340,000, with Libya, Egypt and Rwanda having benefited from the national vaccine-sharing campaign so far. Malta recorded 41 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, the highest daily tally in six weeks, but hospitalisations remain very low.  Another eight patients recovered, bringing the tally of known COVID-19 cases in Malta up to 331. Nine patients are in hospital, three of them in ITU. This also reflected the numbers on Friday. Healthcare workers have administered 886,762 vaccine doses so far, with 57,208 of those being booster doses. Friday's figure was the highest since September 14 when there were 50 cases. Yamaha has unveiled the new XSR900, a retro-inspired motorcycle with more power and lower overall weight than before.  The XSR900 was first introduced in 2016, but given the expansion of the Sports Heritage segment it sits within, Yamaha has decided to give the bike an overhaul in order for it to stay current.  It boasts a lighter ‘Deltabox’ frame than before, with a lower head position and longer swingarm to help with straight-line stability. Several people were wounded on Saturday in a knife attack on a high-speed train in Germany's Bavaria, local police said, adding the alleged perpetrator had been arrested.
