Inadequate number of student nurses in mental health

There are just 27 student nurses in mental health, which, Mental Health Commissioner John Cachia warns, is inadequate to address staff shortage issues. Figures supplied to the Times of Malta by the University of Malta show that 27 students are reading for a bachelor’s degree in mental health nursing. Six more are reading for a master’s in mental health nursing and six for a general nursing master’s with a specific focus on mental health. Only a handful of students will graduate and enter the workforce every year, figures show. Читать дальше...

CSKA beat Red Star 1-0 to reach Europa League last 16

CSKA Moscow became the first team to reach the Europa League last 16 after an Alan Dzagoev goal gave them a 1-0 second-leg home win over Red Star Belgrade on Wednesday following last week's goalless stalemate in the Serbian capital. Livewire Dzagoev sealed the contest on the stroke of halftime with a simple close-range finish after a flowing move, with midfielder Konstantin Kuchaev teeing him up with a fine low cross from the left. CSKA, who won the UEFA Cup in 2005, dominated on a freezing evening... Читать дальше...

'Laws have failed,' say Florida survivors in push to limit gun sales

Hundreds of people including teenaged survivors of last week's deadly Florida high school mass shooting poured into the state capital Tallahassee on Wednesday demanding that lawmakers limit sales of assault rifles. Some wore T-shirts and carried signs reading "We call B.S.," one of the slogans of the movement started by students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, where 17 students and educators were slain by a gunman with an AR-15 semi-automatic assault rifle in the second-deadliest shooting at a US public school. Confusion, congestion, dust..and dead cats at Mrieħel

It may have aspirations of transforming itself into an upmarket financial district, but the Mrieħel industrial area today looks more like a neglected dumping ground than a future Canary Wharf. A walk around the area – which hosts some 6,000 employees in hundreds of businesses – reveals poorly maintained roads and discarded waste on every corner, as well as haphazard parking and construction work. The Mrieħel Business Foundation, later renamed the Central District Business Foundation, was set up... Читать дальше...

Jordan Daniel Aird filed a judicial protest on Wednesday wherein he explained how he had clinched the new job after a Skype interview, with a written proposal for a three-year contract against an annual salary of €45,000 effective from July 24, 2017, following suit. Jamanka steers Germany to gold

Germany won the women's Olympic bobsleigh gold medal on Wednesday after a steering masterclass by Mariama Jamanka earned her and partner Lisa Buckwitz their country's first success in the event since 2006. American Elana Meyers Taylor, who won silver four years ago and bronze in 2010, and partner Lauren Gibbs piled on the pressure with a succession of fast starts but their advantage was whittled away each time and they took silver, seven hundredths of a second behind in three minutes, 22.52 seconds.
