Many cities are being overwhelmed by growing numbers of people migrating to them, and will become highly vulnerable to floods, storms and other disasters unless authorities receive more support, urban experts said. Through the united efforts of the Malta Historical Society and the Notarial Archives Foundation, three volumes on corsairing activities in Malta and the Mediterranean have been for the last few months undergoing professional conservation treatment. Around 20 Biafrans protested in Valletta this morning, trying to raise awareness on their territorial claims in Nigeria. Gubernatorial elections are held in the coming days and the protesters, who currently live in Malta, claimed their people were being killed by the Nigerian government. “We feel we are the government and we want to go back where we belong,” a spokesman for the group said. A woman got the fright of her life when two thieves burst into her house in St Paul's Bay this morning. The incident happened at about 9.30am at St Publius Street, St Paul's Bay. One of the thieves carried a knife. The woman, 43, was slightly injured but was treated on site. It is not known if the thieves took anything. The police are investigating.

A new set of exhibits has been set up in the Gozo Philatelic Society showcase at Il-Ħaġar Heart of Gozo museum, Level -1, St George’s Square, Victoria. ‘A to Zed Varied Philately’ provides examples for all alphabet letters from small and big issuers. They include stamps, miniature sheets, booklets and envelopes. The exhibits will remain on show until early December when the showcase will be changed to a Christmas theme. Il-Ħaġar Heart of Gozo is open from 9am to 5pm seven days a week. Admission is free.

Malta issued 20.6 residence permits per thousand inhabitants in 2016, more than three times the EU average of 6.5. Cyprus came in second with 19.9 and Poland third with15.4, followed by Sweden (14.8) and the United Kingdom (13.2), according to Eurostat. The annual rate of inflation crept up to 1.5 per cent in October from 1.2 per cent the previous month, figures issued today show. The statistics office, quoting the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) said the largest upward impact on annual inflation was recorded in the Food and Non-alcoholic Beverages Index (0.37 percentage points), mainly reflecting higher prices of non-alcoholic beverages. The only bid received for the redevelopment of Marfa Palace is being evaluated by three independent architects, and will then be passed on to the Lands Authority for further assessment, according to the Capital Projects Ministry. A potted bay tree with a message to the prime minister was put on top of the stairs outside the Auberge de Castille this morning as the #Occupy Justice group continued its campaign for change, a month since Daphne Caruana Galizia's car bomb murder. In their message, the women insisted that there could be no justice without change, and anybody who did not work to bring about change was an accomplice for what had happened.   The women want action against corruption and the replacement of the police commissioner and the attorney general.

A 3D printer has been used to recreate a skull found during excavations of St Paul’s Catacombs in Rabat between 2010 and 2014. The recreation is the fruit of collaboration between Heritage Malta and Thought3D. St Paul’s Catacombs was used as a spiritual hub and burial ground from the Phoenician up to the Byzantine period. A 26-year-old woman from Lija is seriouslhy injured after her motorcycle was involved in a collision with a car driven by a 18-year-old man from Qormi. Police said that the collision occurred at 7.50am on Triq Ħal Luqa. The driver of the car was not injured. Police are investigating.

As pollution level climbed to 12 times above the recommended limit this week in India's capital, government officials said they knew what was needed to control the smoky haze, but nothing would be done, at least this year. Police looking for a car suspected of having been linked to Daphne Caruana Galizia’s murder have drawn a blank. “Based on what we knew, we managed to narrow down the search but when it came to identifying the exact car, the eyewitness information was inadequate,” sources close to the investigation said.
