Donald Trump has been accused of inciting violence against the media after he tweeted a video clip of him beating up a person with a CNN logo covering their head.  In a statement, CNN said the US president was "involved in juvenile behaviour far below the dignity of his office" and "encouraging violence against reporters." Saudi Arabia's King Salman bin Abdulaziz has ordered an over-enthusiastic columnist to be suspended from his job after he equated him with God, Saudi media reported today. King Salman has frequently been lauded by columnists in local media, in traditional deference to authority, since the 81-year-old assumed office in 2015. Sliema’s iconic Chalet could make a comeback after its doors were shut more than 50 years ago, The Sunday Times of Malta has learnt. Eleven young men were arrested on suspicions of trafficking cannabis by drug squad police in two separate incidents between Friday and Saturday night. Four youths aged between 17 and 23 were arrested in St Paul's square, Ħamrun on Friday after a police raid revealed what is believed to be cannabis resin, plants and buds. They are expected to be arraigned in court and charged with cannabis possession and trafficking in the coming days. A new book called Birds of the Maltese Islands documents all the 463 species of birds recorded in Malta. Written by ornithologist Natalino Fenech, the book cites all existing ornithological literature and lists 32 new species that have been recorded since 2010, when the book A Complete Guide to the Birds of Malta was published. The Complete Guide had won the research category in the Maltese National Book Awards in 2011 and was judged as one of the best 10 bird books reviewed by the influential British magazine Birdwatch. Rabat is today celebrating the feast of St Paul, Malta's patron saint, which this year coincides with the 1,950th anniversary of the martyrdom of the saint. As in recent years, a main attraction is Festa Karti, an explosion of colourful confetti synchronised to music, organised by the youths of the locality.

The rumour that there was a huge increase in the number of illiterate voters asking for assistance at the polling booths in June’s election has not been borne out by statistics. According to figures supplied by the Electoral Commission, on June 3, 17,902 voters took an oath that they could not vote independently and needed assistance. This compares to 17,349 in 2013.
