Odd-looking jellyfish spotted along Malta's north-east coast are the same species as those first reported by the Times of Malta last Saturday, a leading marine biologist has said.  Alan Deidun confirmed that photos taken by a Times of Malta reader were of the Australian spotted jellyfish (Phyllorhiza punctata), an Indo-Pacific species which prefers tropical waters and which has bloomed in recent years in Tunisia. A five-year-old boy from Qormi was grievously injured this morning when he was hit by a car driven by a 32-year-old woman from Żebbuġ. The accident happened in Triq Correa, Qormi at 8.25am.

Malta coach Pietro Ghedin has named Ryan Camenzuli and Sam Magri in his final squad for the 2018 World Cup Group F qualifier against Slovenia on Friday  at the National Stadium. A severe weather alert has been issued to drivers as the first significant snow of winter fell across a large swathe of northern England and Scotland. High-level routes across the Pennines were hit by the wave of snow which swept across the north of the country from yesterday evening. Five people are trapped and 40 people have been injured after a tram overturned. The incident, involving a two-car vehicle, happened in a tunnel in south London, a Transport for London spokesman said. The World Health Organisation revised guidelines on antenatal, saying pregnant women should have twice as many contacts with health providers – eight – as it recommended previously.
