Chris had Cold Feet actress Fay Ripley, who plays Jenny Gifford, in the studio today and told listeners that emotions will once again be running high around her storyline.
Speaking about the episode, he said: “It’s funny. It’s breathtaking. It’s jaw-dropping. Ninety minutes in you will cry, but I’m not going to tell you why. But you will definitely, definitely cry. Something to do with your storyline again.”
Fay told how the cast and crew aim to begin each new series with a bang to hook viewers from the off and justify the show’s return.
She said: “I guess early on, as you say, we need to do a lot early on to say we’re back. And each time you need to go with that, you’re safe. We’re your friends. But loads of stuff happens. And and yeah, they give a taste of that early on in the show.”
In the last series viewers sobbed as they watched Jenny receive her breast cancer diagnosis and begin her treatment.
And Fay told how she is regularly hugged in the street by someone who has been affected by cancer.
She said: “I’m just hugging strangers, basically. That’s now my job. I’m very happy to do it. It feels incredibly personal.
“And I’m hugging people in your office block. I’m hugging people in supermarkets because it’s someone’s sister, mum, dad, brother.
“You know, there’s we’re all affected by cancer in some way. And, you know, come up to me and let’s have a hug. That’s what I’m here for.”
After receiving the life changing news in the eighth series, Jenny sat in a car with a fellow patient and broke down into tears.
One twitter user wrote at the time: “Not cried with the TV in ages #Cancer #ColdFeet”
While another shared: “@FayRipley Omg, Im in tears after watching you sobbing in the hospital car park, such a moving scene so well done Fay”

Jenny decided to keep her diagnosis to herself and returned home to her kids and Pete (John Thomson).
The script had a profound impact on Fay, who admitted the thought of being diagnosed in real life was terrifying.
She said: “I’m completely terrified with the odds as they are – I’m constantly thinking, ‘Who’s next?’
“I catastrophise. I’m not saying it’s right to live like that but I completely catastrophise and I’m scared.
“I know so many people who have breast cancer – or other kinds of cancer, but very particularly breast cancer.
“I did talk a little bit to people about it. But I have to say, again, that you have to be a bit careful as an actor – playing someone with a lump is not the same talking face to face.
“They’ve got it, it’s their life, so it’s really much more about saying, ‘Listen, I’m going to be doing this and, you know, I hope you’re OK with it?’ ”
