Package settlement may turn into landmark, not in Armenia’s interests – Giro Manoyan
Giro Manoyan, Head of the Hay Dat office, Armenian Revolutionary Federation Dashnaktsutyun (ARF-D), commented on the Armenia-Azerbaijani presidential meeting in Saint Petersburg, Russia, and on their joint statement.
According to him, the statement suggests a number of points and the results of their implementation will soon be tangible.
The sides seem to have discussed all the issues related to investigative mechanisms and expansion of the OSCE office.
“Our concern is that, after serious negotiations over a settlement get under way, I think the Armenian side, Nagorno-Karabakh, will come under growing pressure because they are expected to satisfy Azerbaijan and they could start drafting a comprehensive agreement, which may have different consequences.
“That is, a package solution may turn into a landmark solution, which is not in our interests,” Mr Manoyan said.
Asked about possible pressure on Azerbaijan, including in terms of investigative mechanisms, Mr Manoyan said that the international community is actually pressing Azerbaijan into agreeing to confidence-building mechanisms.
“And this is the result of pressure. It is not Azerbaijan’s wish to agree.”
