VisaMetric: Russian-Turkish consortium suspends activity in Armenia
VisaMetric, the Russian-Turkish consortium entrusted to issue visas to Armenian citizens applying for travel permits to several Schengen countries, has suspended its activity in Armenia.
In an official statement released Wednesday, the German Embassy in Yerevan says their Consulate Department will from now on continue processing the visa applications for Germany, the Benelux countries (Belgium, Netherlands and Luxemburg), Sweden and Austria.
The Embassy also asks potential applicants to check the availability of appointing visit hours online.
The Justice Ministry’s Agency for Personal Data Protection said in an official statement last week that they had initiated a probe to check the compliance of the company’s activity with the legislation of Armenia.
On March 30, VisaMetric notified the Agency of its plan to deal with the procession of biometric or special categories of personal data.
After considering the application, the Agency asked the company (in a written statement) to submit the necessary documentation authorizing such activities.
It also called for suspending the document procession procedures until the end of the investigation.
